they marched for peace
The March for Peace was organized this Monday, April 18 in the streets of the capital. About 300 people were present.
This Easter Monday, the participants in the Friddensmarch, or March for Peace, met at 3 p.m. at the Glacis. The procession then marched towards Place Clairefontaine. This meeting was organized by the OGBL and the Friddensplattform.
They called on all citizens and associations who wished to defend peace and social justice to come together and march with them. Current events and the war in Ukraine have caught up with the organizers of this demonstration. But the latter, when they announced the organization of this march, recalled that they were calling for the end of all wars throughout the world.
And unfortunately, there are many: Yemen, Ethiopia, Mali… They also wanted to march in favor of a coherent climate policy, social justice and a more united world.
“War hysteria in the heart of Europe; rearmament everywhere; the Paris climate targets are slipping away; in the pandemic, social inequalities have increased massively; discrimination and hatred are increasing in a frightening way on social networks.
The organizers of the March for Peace 2022 have had enough,” wrote the OGBL and the Friddensplattform in their appeal for this day of mobilization. The organizers of the 2022 march also wanted to call on the government to show more social justice.
The Covid-19 pandemic has indeed accelerated social inequalities around the world, including in Luxembourg, the organizers explained. The latter also wanted to denounce through this peaceful demonstration the hate speech and contempt for human beings that are displayed more and more openly.
