Russia calls for clarification from Montenegro after reports of severance of diplomatic relations
The Embassy of Russia in Podgorica considered a note of communication at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, requests for clarification in the publication with the publication on Twitter of the Montenegrin diplomatic mission of a message about the need to break diplomatic relations with Russia. This was reported to a TASS correspondent on Monday, April 18, in the Russian diplomatic mission.
“We sent a note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, asking for clarification,” the embassy said.
Earlier on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro published a statement on Twitter by the head of the department. George Radulovic about the need to break off diplomatic relations with Russia, but a few hours later it was deleted from Twitter.
In the published case, that a decision will be made to make a decision regarding the Russian Federation in connection with the conflict in Ukraine, it is stated that “the state institution of Montenegro is implementing restrictive measures taken against Russia.”
As a comment to the tweet, the Montenegrin Foreign Ministry published a list of established restrictions on measures, including “severance of diplomatic relations, or partial severance of economic relations, complete or partial severance of imports, exports, transit, transport and provision of services and logistics, postal and other communications.”
In addition, sanctions such as “military embargo, closure of entry into Montenegro, closure for the use of funds, means of receipt and / or other property” were listed.
After comments from users who asked whether diplomatic relations with Russia were broken or not, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro deleted the message on Twitter.
The country’s leading pro-Russian newspaper, Pobeda, which deals with Russophobic sentiment, published a report under the headline “Montenegro breaks investigation into relations with Russia?!” However, after the publication of the message of the Foreign Ministry, the newspaper corrected the headline in the following article: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on payments broke off diplomatic relations with Russia.” According to the publication, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro “sent a correction to the message, which said that the minister had announced the types of restrictive measures.”
