Prague – ČTK is broadcasting a live press conference from 14:00 after a meeting of the crisis staff of the capital city of Prague on the situation regarding migration waves and the opening of the Regional Assistance Center to help Ukraine in a new location.
The Czechia has so far granted temporary protection to 294,844 Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion. There were 1,020 of them on Sunday, about 1,550 less than the same day a week ago. The current data was published on Monday by the Ministry of the Interior at twitter. According to Thursday’s statement by the Minister of the Interior Vít Rakušan (STAN), the number of Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic has stabilized at approximately 300,000.
The Vysočanská metro assistance center, which offers newcomers assistance with registration, accommodation, documents, job placement or insurance, was located in the Prague Congress Center (KCP) at the Vyšehrad metro station until Wednesday. The reason for the center’s relocation was the already contracted events in the KCP, including those for the Czech Republic’s presidency of the European Union.
Compared to the KCP, the capacity in Vysočany is about three quarters, and up to 2,700 people can be handled there daily. According to the city management, this should be enough, because recently the daily number of refugees checked in the center ranges between 500 and 1,000 people.
