Donatas Motiejunas (Monaco): “We work every day to be ready, and why not join the Final Four”
The Lithuanian pivot of AS Monaco, Donatas Motiejunas (2.13m, 31 years old), gives himself up on the club’s websiteevoking in particular the confrontation which arrives with Olympiakos in the quarter-finals of the Euroleague.
First of all, he welcomes the change of coach during the season:
“Since the bus arrived, many outside people have been part of the difference we have seen, especially in our defense. But also in attack, everyone has their role and that changes a lot. All the credit goes to Sasa Obradovic, because before his arrival, we couldn’t play like that. It was really the turning point of our season. »
Motiejunas knows that it will be necessary to win at least one of the first two matches in Piraeus to be well placed in this quarter-final:
“The atmosphere will be crazy. We played big matches in difficult environments like at Maccabi, in Kaunas. Of course against Olympiakos it will be great to play there with this flavor of the playoffs. As a player, these are the matches you want to play. You fight all year for the chance to face this kind of team with such an atmosphere. All the guys are excited to play this Euroleague quarter. We work every day to be ready, and why not join the Final Four (…) Winning at home would be an advantage over the series, and it could put pressure on Olympiakos. Every team in these playoffs wants to grab an away win before coming home. We will go to Athens with the desire to win both matches, and not just one (…) It’s a very big team that plays very good basketball. Especially at home in front of their fans. They lost very little in their room, and that proves their quality. I have respect for this opponent, but we will give everything to win. You prepare for a big fight, that’s the beauty of this sport. »
