0: 3 at BW Linz! Wacker coach Oenning: “Not our big day” – football
Easter Monday was one to forget for FC Wacker Innsbruck.
After three unbeaten games, the Tyroleans went into the away game against FC Blau-Weiss Linz with a healthy dose of self-confidence. After a poor performance, there is a justified 0:3 defeat.
The club was only able to keep up with the champions at the beginning of the game with crises, a header goal by Christoph Schönswendter (16th) made all hopes of a sense of achievement dwindle early on.
“We were actually good in the game at the beginning. Then came the corner and how often did we fall asleep with the set”, Wacker coach Michael Oenning was annoyed about the early goal conceded. “We then tried to hold back until half-time, although Linz already had game advantages.”
Goal conceded just before the break “was trend-setting”
However, Innsbruck could not offer much resistance, Wacker hardly got access to the game. Just five minutes after the opening goal, Anteo Fetahu hit the crossbar, but just before half-time Matthias Seidl made it 2-0 for the “Royal Blues”.
Oenning paid tribute to Gerald Scheiblehner’s team: “The opponent had a lot of grip and was good in a duel.” The second goal just before half-time was “pointing the way”, the German continued.
“We then tried again, but we couldn’t get in. I then made a complete change, just to give the others playing time,” explains Oenning of his four-way change in the 64th minute.
A converted penalty by Michael Brandner in the 77th minute made everything clear, and just before the end of the game Ronivaldo scored FC Wacker’s first opportunity to score. But in the final phase they were lucky that Fabian Windhager missed the 4:0 with a hit from the pole.
Oenning: Have to accept defeat
Oenning accepted the clear defeat: “All in all we have to accept today that we lost. The only good thing about our situation is that we think game by game.”
The head coach also notes that the current financial situation can make any game the last game.
“It’s important to me that I get impressions of how we behave in different situations.”
His eyes are already on the home game next Friday against SK Rapid II.
“Today wasn’t our big day but I think we have another chance on Friday and a clear mission to get the three points.”
