The speech of the General Director of the Tourism.RF Corporation at a round table in the State Duma on April 15 was the reason for a heated discussion in the community: he compared consideration with consideration among tourists of countries and observed figures that arise when problematic situations arise. This caused misunderstanding among the experts.

As Sergei Sukhanov noted, the territory of Russia is more than 17 million square meters. m, but in terms of the number of hotels we compared with Vietnam, which is 50 times smaller. The total area of ​​Italy, Croatia and France is 16 times smaller than the territory of Russia. But the hotels there, as the head of the corporation said, are as many times larger. “There is an obvious shortage of high-quality, modern and affordable funds,” Sukhanov said.

Roman Yeremyan gave other figures. “According to Booking.com’s revenue, there are about 460,000 hotels in the world. In Russia, there are 29,000 placements of collective funds, according to Rosstat. If you multiply 29,000 by 16, it turns out that in the version of Tourism.RF there are 464 thousand in France, Italy and Croatia – a little more than there is in the whole world.

In fairness, it should be added that there are different data on the number of hotels. The same Booking.com has on-site information about 28 million “accommodation units”, which includes not only hotels, but also apartments and guest houses.

Google in response to a query about the number of hotels in the world gives a high number in 700 thousand. Of these, in the USA – 91 thousand. But if you take away small motels, then in the category of full-fledged hotels, where there are at least 15 rooms, in which 52 thousand people already live.

Due to the difference in terminology, it is more correct to count not hotels, but the number of rooms available for tourists.

If you rely on this indicator, then Russia in popular countries among tourists does not look so bad. France, Italy and Croatia have 1 million 730 thousand numbers for three, and Russia – 990 thousand. Yes, we are lagging behind. But not by 16 times, as Sergei Sukhanov said, by 43%.

However, the thoroughness of the requests made is questionable. “Comparison with Vladimir, compare the area with at least a similar climate,” writes one of the subscribers of the telegram channel “Roof of TourDom”. different economy, that the population of Europe and Russia, to put it mildly, is different. “Who needs these hotels here? We are 1.5 diggers,” there is a hint that in Russia there is not enough solvent demand to fill and profitably operate the same number of hotels as in the Mediterranean countries, where tourists from all over Europe rest. This is especially true in the conditions of the almost complete presence of the incoming tourist flow.
