In Parma it has been supplied to the local police since 1 April, in Genoa since autumn 2021, but there are numerous municipalities that are experimenting with it: the bolawrap, the new non-lethal tool capable of immobilizing (without physical damage) criminals or dangerous people for himself and others who will be supplied to local police officers.

The snare gun, or BolaWrap works like a lasso. It is a device that shoots Kevlar laces that immobilize the subject against which it is used. The device works according to the principle of the Argentine bolas: two weights are fixed at the ends of a cable thrown against the person you want to immobilize, and turning around the victim, the weights themselves tighten not allowing him to move anymore.

Presented two years ago by a hi-tech company in Las Vegas, the instrument is already part of the equipment of 120 police forces in the USA. A green laser guides the aim: the snare is launched at a speed of over 150 meters per second, at a useful distance that varies between 3 and 8 meters.

From April, and for three months, the local police of Parma, Experimentation begins with the first five tools supplied to the local and emergency departments, employed in urban security services and Tso. The bolawrap is already used in over 40 countries around the world, in particular in the United States where it is also supplied to the Los Angeles police, and in Italy to the Genoa Local Police. In recent months, some police unions had urged the competent authorities to have the BolaWrap as an individual endowment, together with the planned Taser, or as an alternative to it.
