Toulouse: the rain and rubble still enter his apartment, and the promised work is slow to arrive
Meryeme, tenant for thirty years of a HLM apartment in the Place des Pradettes, in the west of Toulouse, is subject to infiltrations in her apartment. A gaping hole in its ceiling, which appeared several months ago, has still not been filled.
Can you imagine living on the top floor of a building, and seeing rainwater running down the walls of your bedroom, your kitchen, and through a hole several centimeters deep, in the middle of your living room, in bad weather? This is the situation that Meryeme has been experiencing for more than 7 months. She has been a tenant for 30 years in a residence on Place des Pradettes, in Toulouse.
Rubble fell through the hole in his ceiling
A fortnight ago, the lessor of Meryeme announced the start of work, which will consist of renovating the roof of the building. But since then, still nothing. And even worse, two days ago, at the height of the autan wind gusts (nearly 100 km / h) in the region, Meryeme spent a “horrible” night.
“The roofers who came a few days ago had placed tarpaulins on the roof to prevent runoff. But the tarps flew away, and one of them, held down by a board on the roof, was banging against the window of my bedroom. It’s a construction site tarpaulin, heavy. The noise was deafening, and I even thought for a moment that it was going to break my window, it’s so violent…” There are a few also nights, while the wind blew, residues of rubble fell through the hole in its ceiling.
“Exhausted, mentally and physically”
The tenant, who is also disabled, can’t manage to get out of appointments with experts, workers, managers of the HLM organization that rents her apartment… “I’m exhausted, mentally and physically, explains- she. I’ve been forced to sleep in my living room for several months, with my sofas in the middle of the room, because the water runs down the walls. In my bedroom, the water runs off, in my kitchen too, in my daughter’s room.
The social landlord plans to start work on April 25
The HLM lessor of Meryeme, Toulouse Métropole Habitat, asked by “La Dépêche du Midi”, replied: “Our services are closely monitoring this situation, in particular the precautionary measures taken pending the effective start of the construction site.”
“Given the strong winds, our technician and the works company were still on site yesterday morning (Tuesday morning) to meet our tenant to put the tarpaulin back in place, and to keep them informed of the progress of the file” .
“The implementation of precautionary measures is complicated by the lack of access to the roof, concluded Toulouse Métropole Habitat. Due to the current difficulties in the supply of building materials, the reception of the tiles is a little slow; The company plans to start construction on April 25.”
