The Russian Museum celebrates the 100th anniversary of the opening of the restoration workshop
It is important to note. This year is exactly 100 years since the opening of the restoration workshop.
In honor of the centenary, the museum was released into those rooms where the life of great paintings, icons and statues was discovered. Now the museum employs 13 craftsmen, they have 89 employees. There are departments for the restoration of ancient Russian easel painting, gilded carvings, plywood furniture, and fabrics. There is even a department of chemical and biological research. The work of art healers cannot be overestimated: not a single movement of a museum exhibit can do without restorers.
“Thousands of muscles, sometimes four muscles. But in restoration, the main thing is not quantity. It is important not to rush and not engage in restoration by some anniversaries,” says Vladimir Gusev, General Director of the Russian Museum.
As noted at the press conference, time dictates its own rules. The museum has already opened a workshop for the restoration of art objects. It is planned to create such a department for photography. Direction for important work, the museum currently has 421,795 items. Funds are sold annually, on average, one and a half of the exhibits.
