Have more young people emigrated from Portugal than “in the time of the ‘troika'”?
“You media hide, but the truth is that younger people continue to emigrate than at the time of troikawe are on a good path”, reads the publish of March 31 on Facebook, which raised doubts among several readers of the Polígrafo.
According to the most recent data, compiled in by datein 2020 there was a total of 68,209 emigrantsof which 25,886 are permanent and 42,323 are temporary.
Now, during the financial assistance period of the troika (2011-2014), the level of emigration was always highestranging from a minimum of 100,978 people in 2011 and a maximum of 134,624 people in 2014.
Within the subgroups of emigrants permanent and temporarythe numbers to the reference period troika were also always more superior2 than in 20.
But the publication under review refers to the “young“, not indicating the corresponding age group. If we apply to the concept of “young people” the age group up to 29 years old of age in 2020 registered a total of 30,061 emigrantsof which 12,584 are permanent and 17,477 are temporary.
Again, during the period of troika (2011-2014), the level of emigration in the age group at 29 years of age was always highest. In 2012, for example, there was a total of 56,962 emigrants in that age group.
In short, is not true that “continue to emigrate younger than at the time of troika“.
