RTR Moldova fined 5,000 lei for broadcasting a report on the day of mourning in Donetsk
The Audiovisual Council (CA) fined RTR Moldova 5,000 lei for broadcasting material about the day of mourning in Donetsk, in which accusations were leveled against Ukraine, but without ensuring the right of reply. The sanction was applied at the April 8 hearing, at the request of WatchDog.
The CA monitored the March 15 news bulletin. In the news, he reported on the day of mourning in Donetsk in connection with the death of several people following a rocket attack. In the material, the journalists referred to the leader of the self-proclaimed DNR (Donetsk People’s Republic) Denis Pushilin, who stated that the rocket was launched by Ukraine. However, the position of the representatives of the neighboring state is missing, he writes Media Today.
The representatives of RTR Moldova informed the Board that, at the time of preparing the bulletin, the reporters checked the official pages of the Ukrainian authorities and did not identify any reaction. The television station mentioned that other Moldovan channels often report news about the war in Ukraine based on only one source – that of Kiev.
CA member Mihalevschi mentioned that journalists could have documented themselves better and could have found the bad of Ukraine the same day, who accused the Russian side of what happened, as it did and searching for information on the Internet.
Thus, the members of the Board of Directors sanctioned RTR Moldova with 5,000 lei for the repeated violation of the provision which obliges that “within the audiovisual news programs, for which accuracy and correctness are essential, the relations must come from reliable sources, sufficiently documented factually , with a credible and impartial approach to events, with a balanced reflection of different opinions ”.
