In Luxembourg – Historic buildings in the capital “have been deliberately soiled”

LUXEMBOURG – Several buildings in the heart of Luxembourg City have been tagged.
“In the heart of our beautiful old town, a number of historic buildings have been deliberately soiled”, storms, on Facebook, the First alderman of the capital, Serge Wilmes. He accompanies his rant with several photos showing walls in the center of Luxembourg City, degraded by tags. “Other neighborhoods are victims of it,” adds the elected official. According to him, “the owners of the buildings often have to clean up at their own expense, otherwise the sector will deteriorate even more”. And to add that “vandalism has no place in our city. This is unacceptable !”
It is not yet known what the consequences of these damages will be. “Most of these beacons are either on private buildings or state property,” says Serge Wilmes at The essential. “Two or three tags recently appeared on the facade of the Berigercenter, on the rue Notre-Dame side. I don’t know if we will file a complaint, but we will certainly have them removed from our building, ”he adds.
“Yes to street art, no to vandalism”
For the elected municipal and deputy, however, a solution to the problem must be found. “We will have to sit around a table with the representatives of the State to discuss possible actions at the level of the historic block of the City”, he believes. The sector “is still a UNESCO heritage site, the showcase of the City, where almost all the streets are affected by the tags”.
The elected official also recalls that “street art has its place in our City”. Especially since the municipality “offers many possibilities for artists, for example at the Schluechthaus, on certain facades of public buildings or certain site fences. So yes to street art, no to vandalism”.
