Goals from Porto lead Portugal to the semi-finals of the Futsal Down World Cup
Portugal continues to build a success story in Futsal for people with Down Syndrome and has two Portuguese stars. After scoring the victory of the national team against Peru, César Morais and Daniel Maia enter the field today ahead of Brazil to compete for a place in the final of the Futsal World Championship of the International Football Federation for Down Syndrome (FIFDS).
If the victory is the victory for Portugal, the athletes will have the opportunity to add a title already won in 2018, when the national team became champions. At that time, César Morais’ six goals earned him the Golden Boot.
The two athletes from Futebol Clube do Porto have also stood out in this World Cup as the best scorers of the national team. César Morais already has five goals and Daniel Maia, four.
After debuting in the competition with a defeat to the national team, the national team won the following two games – against Mexico and Peru to the place in the second-finals of the group.
The semi-finals match will be played this Saturday, April 9, at 4 pm (local time, 10 pm in mainland Portugal) and the final will take place tomorrow, the 10th.
Daniel Maia and César Morais were two of the “Magnificent Seven” who, in November 2021were recognized by the Municipalities of Porto, after the European TriGames Medals (21st Athlete Championship).
