The events of the review “The Veneto Region for quality cinema – The Region takes you to the cinema with three euros – Tuesdays at the cinema”, a multi-year successful project of the Veneto Region, continue on Tuesday, April 12 in the cinemas of Venice and its province made in collaboration with the Italian Federation of Essai Cinema (FICE) of the Tre Venezie and the Interregional Union of Triveneta AGIS.
Venice

Although the rumors of tradition are already circulating, the Christmas holidays at the royal Sandringham House sanction a truce. And time passes between dinners, drinks and hunting parties. Diana knows the game, but this year things are going to be completely different. The film is an imaginary reconstruction of what may have happened during those fateful days.
On the bill at Multisala Rossini we find, at 5.45pm and 9.00pm, “Ennio” (Italy, Belgium, China, Japan, 2021, 150 ‘) by Giuseppe Tornatore, a full-fledged portrait of Ennio Morricone, the most popular and prolific musician of the twentieth century century, the most loved by the international public, twice Oscar winner, author of over 500 unforgettable soundtracks. The documentary tells it through a long interview by Tornatore with the Maestro, testimonies of artists and directors, music and archive images.
At 5.15pm, 7.15pm and 9.15pm, Multiplex Astra in Venice Lido focuses on Kenneth Branagh’s “Belfast” (Great Britain, 2021, 98 ‘), winner of the 2022 Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Belfast, 1969. Buddy lives with his mother and older brother in a mixed neighborhood inhabited by Protestants and Catholics. They are neighbors, friends, schoolmates, but there are those who would like them to be sworn enemies and throw fuel on the fire, stirring up the conflict of the nuns, destroying the windows of the community. Buddy’s Protestant family keeps out of trouble, does not give in to the lure of violent people and eagerly awaits his father’s fortnightly return from London, where he works as a carpenter.
Mestre
A rich selection of works in the Mestre rooms. At the Dante Cinema, Roger Michell’s “The Portrait of the Duke” (Great Britain, 2020, 96 ‘) is scheduled at 5.00 pm, 7.00 pm and 9.00 pm. In 1961, Kempton Bunton, a 60-year-old taxi driver, stole Francisco Goya’s Portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in London. Kempton demanded an unusual ransom: he would only return the painting if the government put more effort into caring for the elderly, for whom he had fought before. Only 50 years later it was discovered that Kempton was weaving a web of lies. The only truth was that he was a good man determined to change the world and save his marriage.
There are two possibilities of choice at the IMG Candiani multiplex. At 4.45 pm, 7.50 pm and 10.05 pm the screening of the film “The dark daughter” (USA, 2021, 121 ‘) by Maggie Gyllenhaal, based on the novel of the same name by Elena Ferrante and awarded in Venice for the best screenplay, begins. During a beach vacation alone, Leda is intrigued and fascinated by a young mother and her little daughter as she watches them on the beach. Troubled by their irresistible relationship, as well as their rowdy and threatening extended family, Leda is overwhelmed by her personal memories related to her early stages of motherhood. At 4.40pm, 6.30pm, 8.15pm and 10.05pm it is the turn of “Bla Bla Baby” (Italy, 2022, 94 ‘) by Fausto Brizzi. Luca works at the futuristic Green Light company that deals with renewable energy and environmental sustainability. Thanks to the help of a former schoolmate in middle school, a place at the company nursery. One day Luca eats a baby food that gives him a superhero talent: the ability to interpret what children think and express in an incomprehensible way to adults.
Look, instead, at the French cinema at the IMG Palazzo multiplex with the screening, at 4.45pm, 7.15pm and 9.15pm, of “Parigi, 13Arr.” (France, 2021, 105 ‘) by Jacques Audiard. The film tells a modern story of love and friendship, youth and sexuality. Four lives with their respective existential questions, four destinies that intertwine against the backdrop of Parisian skyscrapers. Three girls and a boy in a liquid world. Friends, lovers and the two together fill a world of black and white with colors.
Province
In the province, at the Cinema Teatro di Mirano we find, at 20.00, “Ennio” (Italy, Belgium, China, Japan, 2021, 150 ‘) by Giuseppe Tornatore. The Cinema Oratorio di Robegano celebrates the Oscar Night just passed by screening, at 8.30 pm, “Coda – The signs of the heart” (USA, France, 2021, 111 ‘) by Sian Heder, winner of Best Film, Best Non-original Screenplay and Best supporting actor. Ruby Rossi is no ordinary high school girl: her days begin at 3 in the morning, on a fishing boat, alongside her older brother Leo who, like both of her parents, is deaf. Ruby has spent most of her life as an interpreter for her family, and feels particularly protective of dad Frank and mom Jackie. Even though Ruby is taking on a tremendous amount of responsibility as she faces the challenges of adolescence, she has an important way out: she loves to sing.
From the Berlinale of 2020, the opera “A year with Salinger” (Canada, Ireland 2020, 101 ‘) by Philippe Falardeau, based on the novel of the same name by Joanna Rakoff, arrives at the Multisala Verdi in Cavarzere at 9.00 pm. New York, 1990s: After leaving graduate school to become a writer, Joanna is hired as an assistant to Margaret, JD Salinger’s deadpan and slightly retro literary agent. Joanna’s main task is to respond, with a formal message from the agency, to the thousands of letters sent by Salinger’s admirers. But reading the poignant words that come from all over the world, Joanna always becomes reluctant to respond with the agency’s impersonal letter and on impulse begins to personalize the responses.
