Merijn Tinga, the Plastic Soup Surfer from Leiden, will make a trip of 300 kilometers on a supboard made of disposable cups. “The distance between Brussels and Amsterdam amounts to 5 million disposable cups in a row.”
On July 7, the resident of Leiden will start in Brussels, then he will head to Amsterdam supt via Antwerp, Ghent, Vlissingen, Brouwersdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and IJmuiden. On inland waters he paddles on an electric supboard, on the sea and other places where there is wind with a special kite.
Campaign against disposable cups
With the tour he campaigns for reusable cups and against disposable cups. “I hope this journey inspires people to take action,” Tinga says. “If you know what the consequences are, you just have to know that.”
He is practicing a lot to make the trip of 300 kilometers. “Of course I have to be able to do it well,” says the Plastic Soup Surfer. “But I’m starting to learn it.”
