Movie theaters in Portugal received 668 thousand spectators in March – Cultura
As Portuguese cinemas received 668,809 spectators in March, which is equivalent to a revenue of 3.9 million euros, the Instituto do Cinema e Audiovisual (ICA) revealed this Friday.
Thus, not accumulated for the year, more than 1.5 million people went to the cinema in the first quarter of 2022, which cannot be compared with 2021 or even 2020 due to the impact of the covid-19 pandemic.
Compared to the previous month, March saw an increase of almost one million euros in revenue by 150,000 viewers.
The most watched film between January and March of this year, in Portugal, is “Uncharted”, by Ruben Fleischer, which has already reached 287 thousand spectators, followed by “Batman”, by Matt Reeves, with 231 thousand, and “Men- Spider: No Homecoming” by Jon Watts, with 216,000 people.
In national terms, the most watched Portuguese film in 2022 is “The Man Who Killed D. Quixote”, by Terry Gilliam (co-production with France, Spain, Belgium and the United Kingdom), which was seen by 6,876 people.
According to March data from the ICA, Portugal has 518 cinema screens, 24 more than in the previous month, with NOS being the largest screen in the country, with 208 of the total.
The increases in the number of screens increase in almost the entire country (from 11 to 12 screens), Beja (from eight to 12 screens), Braga (from 39 to 40), Braga (from 39 to 40) (from seven to eight ), Leiria (from 21 to 23), Lisbon (from 135 to 139), Portalegre (from 2 to 4), Porto (from 87 to 89), Santarém (from 13 to 14), Setúbal (from 42 to 43), Vila Real (from nine to ten), and in the autonomous regions of Madeira (from 13 to 14) and Azores (from five to eight).
