Helsinki shipyard lowers the keel to Swan Hellenic’s third
The Finnish shipbuilder Helsinki shipyard said that it had lowered the keel to the third of three Vega-class pole-and-line ships for Swan Hellenic.
The keel was laid in the equipped block 305, which arrived at the shipyard in week 50 in 2021 among several blocks for the new construction of the ship M / S Meri.
Construction is progressing smoothly, the builder said. More than half of the block deliveries have already arrived from the block supplier and the remaining blocks will arrive during April-May. Four main engines have already been lifted to the ship’s hull and two fin stabilizers.
The Vega series vessels to be built at the Helsinki shipyard represent the next generation of pole-and-line vessels, and once delivered, they will sail strongly to high-latitude areas worldwide.
The vessels are equipped with a 4.6 megawatt (MW) diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and a maximum power of 3 MW. battery pack. The first two vessels have a gross tonnage of 10,500 tonnes and have a PC5 ice-reinforced hull. The third vessel is slightly larger than his siblings and weighs 12,100 gross tons with a PC6 ice-reinforced hull.
The first of the vessels, the SH Minerva, will be delivered to Swan Hellenic in December 2021 and the second will be delivered in the spring of 2022. The third vessel, the NB 518, will be delivered to the customer in early 2021. year 2023.
“The new building NB 518 is designed for extreme weather conditions, from heavy ice in the polar regions to the heat and humidity of the tropics, respecting the sensitive ecosystems of the rare and exceptional areas it explores,” said NB 518’s project manager. Nicklas Forsström.
