Hanover (dpa / lni) – In the federal-state agreement on the distribution of costs for the Ukrainian war refugees, Lower Saxony accounts for around 195 million euros. This was announced by a spokesman for the Ministry of Finance on Friday in Hanover. Nationwide, it is therefore two billion euros. Since around ten percent of the German population lives in Lower Saxony, funds are often distributed accordingly.
War refugees from Ukraine are to receive basic state security from June, i.e. the same benefits as, for example, Hartz IV recipients. The federal and state governments had agreed on this late Thursday evening after tough negotiations. They would then be treated on an equal footing with recognized refugees, “that is also logical,” said Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD). Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) rated the agreement as a reasonable compromise.
