Portugal asks Brussels for an exceptional measure” for both models
AN was present today at the Council of Ministers for Agriculture and Fisheries (Agrifish), in which topics such as food security, resilience of food systems and the European market for agricultural products are proposed.
During an intervention Maria do Céu Antune defended “an exceptional crisis, which measured the mobilization of points from the rural development fund – EAFRD”, according to the involvement of agriculture, in a statement.
This proposal was submitted to Agrifish by 13 Member States.
The head of the Agriculture and Food portfolio registered a market crisis in the agri-food sector, given the rise in the price of raw materials and production factors, “as is the case of energy and animal feed, aggravated by the effect of the drought and, now for the war in Ukraine”.
In this sense, the need to adopt “quick and consequential measures” that ensure food security at the European Union level was highlighted.
On the other hand, or for the possible effects on production, since spring sowing may, given the uncertainty of the conjuncture, see how to see a sown area.
According to the same note, despite the European Union’s response, insufficient production impact measures are “unbalanced for insufficient and incomplete production costs”.
The Ministry of Agriculture also said that the European Commissioner responsible for this portfolio, Janusz Wojciechowski, committed to present a proposal for the creation of the exceptional crisis measure.
