Manturov appreciated the possibility of Russia’s withdrawal from the WTO
The Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov answered in the negative to the question about Russia’s possible income from the World Trade Organization (WTO), transfer “RIA News”. According to the head of the department, no such proposals are known.
“Such proposals are still unknown to me – that such a thing is being discussed,” he said.
On March 21, deputies of the Just Russia – For Truth faction submitted to the State Duma a draft federal month on Russia’s withdrawal from the WTO. According to politicians, such a measure is necessary to protect the interests of Russia in response to the adoption in its application. The document assumes that the use of the rights to membership in Russia within the framework of the WTO assumes responsibility for the implementation of obligations within the framework of the organization.
The subsequent initiative in such a Russian Foreign Ministry was also called productive: according to Dmitry Birichevsky, Director of the Department of Economic Cooperation of the Russian Foreign Ministry, full membership in the WTO allows Moscow to participate in the development and improvement of global trade rules, promote priorities in the trade and economic sphere. In addition, after Russia withdraws from the organization of the customs tariff of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), it will decrease and will comply with Kazakhstan’s obligations in the WTO, the level of which is lower than the Russian one. Thus, Russia will demand to continue to comply with this organization, but will not be able to enjoy its benefits.
Russia signed the WTO accession protocol in August 1994, and joined it in August 2012. The authors of the bill that since then Russia has indeed had the status of “most favored nation” for many WTO member countries after the latter introduced against the supreme governing body of the parties.
