In Luxembourg – An agreement reached for the reopening of the CHdN maternity ward
An agreement has been reached to reopen the maternity hospital of the CHdN (Centre hospitalier du Nord) on a date still unknown, the ministries of Health and Social Security said on Thursday. The concept, presented by the CHdN and approved, specifies the role of the anesthesiologist and the midwife in the event of an emergency. It includes tele-expertise with the CHL, or even the transfer to intensive neonatology from the CHL by its SAMU, the availability of which will be increased. It remains to be seen whether the CHL team will be strengthened by hiring neonatologists. In the meantime, women in early labor can call 112 for ambulance transport accompanied by a midwife.
“It is essential to find lasting solutions allowing a rapid reopening of the maternity ward of the CHdN (Centre hospitalier du Nord)”, indicated Thursday the CHL (Centre hospitalier du Luxembourg). If the two hospitals in the capital currently provide deliveries for the CHdN, “the occupancy rate is already very high in our maternity ward”, underlines the CHL. The CHEM, in the south of the country, fears that it will find itself in the same situation as the hospital in the North in a few years, due to the retirement of pediatricians.
