From chocolate wonders to piano magic: Flemish culture will be introduced in Debrecen in May
Debrecen – Within the framework of the ALL-IN Debrecen program series, the representatives of the Flemish nation will bring the acid and pepper of their culture for the first time between 2 and 31 May.
The aim of ALL-IN Debrecen’s events is to create community events whose message is to promote interest in each other, respect for diversity, and ultimately commitment to each other, support for a cohesive urban community, and the actors of a multi-ethnic future settlement. mutual knowledge.
Manneken Pis Challenge
The program series of the ALL-IN Debrecen I Flemish Cultural Days will start on May 3 with a community treasure hunt. The peeing man, i.e. one of the symbols of the Manneken Pis in Brussels, is a small bronze fountain statue. The organizers are hiding a scaled-down copy of the statue in different parts of the city. Treasure hunters can find the mini Manneken Pis figures hidden around the fountains in Debrecen, bringing a statuette to the Kölcsey Center for a ticket to the fantastic May 4 concert of the world-famous Flemish composer and pianist Wim Mertens. Five figures are waiting for their finders. Organizers ask that if someone finds one, leave the other four to the other treasure hunters.
Comic world
Tintin, Lucky Luke, Largo Winch are just a few of the characters who have become famous among the Belgian comic characters on earth. Following the publication of Spirou, a comic book published in 1938, an incredible series of successes began, with the most renowned artists actually becoming national heroes. In Belgium, comics are still a national affair, as entertainment and culture are the most popular carriers. The comic book collections accumulated in families are inherited from father to son as a staffer, and the heir has a duty to expand. European and Belgian comic culture will be on display at the May 3 presentation entitled Comic Book World.
Wim Mertens: Solo piano and vocals
The concert of the world-famous Flemish composer and pianist Wim Mertens: Solo piano and voice recital is the stop of the Inescapable Tour 2022 in Debrecen, whose repertoire includes a selection of the artist’s most emblematic compositions. The mystical piano solos are accompanied by Mertens ’unique tenor, offering a subtle mosaic of emotions.
Early in his career, Mertens followed the paths of composers such as Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Terry Riley or Meredith Monk as producers. From his experimental music to the avant-garde, from new-age to contemporary classical music, his own author’s oeuvre features style notes, always related to the minimum. He will give a concert at the Kölcsey Center on May 4th. Tickets are now available on the Kölcsey Center website.
