The Milanese ATM enters the race to operate the new Grand Paris Express metro
The Milan metro operator and the Egis group, a subsidiary of Caisse des dépôts, have joined forces to position themselves in the ranks to operate the automatic lines of the future Grand Paris Express metro.
The Milan metro operator is trying to land in Paris. ATM is participating in the call for tenders to operate the two automatic lines 16 and 17 of the Grand Paris Express, allied with the French group Egis, a subsidiary of Caisse des dépôts, and already present in 120 countries in the engineering sector infrastructure. The announcement of the Milanese public transport operator, widely relayed by the transalpine press on Tuesday, specifies that to do this, the two entities have set up a temporary business association called Atemis. The goal: to become “a point of reference in the operation of the metro in France, to offer a transport system that combines the best technologies at the service of passengers and citizens”.
The call for tender concerns the first two automatic metro lines of the Grand Paris Express project, the objective of which is to promote new mobility through the eventual construction of four innovative metro lines to improve the connection and reduce travel times between the capital and its outskirts.
The presence of the Milanese ATM operator abroad
ATM’s participation represents a new stage in the Milan operator’s international expansion plan. Abroad, ATM has already been present since 2008 in Copenhagen, where it operates four driverless lines in the Danish capital.
