miart and Art Week, an effective formula in Milan
The 26and edition of the miart fair was held practically in pre-crisis calibrations. Not among the top players from Europe, it nevertheless imposes itself by its intelligent synchronization with a very extensive Art Week.
” It was hell to do two fairs in six months, but it was necessary to get our calendar back on track”explains Nicola Ricciardi, artistic director of miart, the Milanese fair which held its 26and editing. The previous one was held from September 17 to 19, 2021, after an absence of more than two years – the last meeting was in April 2019. A return mentioned by the large public, at the level of 2018 and 2019, even if the organizer does not reveal figures. The event has practically regained its cruising speed with 150 galleries (compared to 170 in 2019) and a third of foreign exhibitors (compared to half in 2019). This reduction in the number of galleries is partly a strategic choice. ” For health reasons, in 2021 we had multiplied the aisles, squares, corner stands, promoting traffic. It turned out to be a good idea and we kept it. It went hand in hand with simplification. We have put an end to the systematic distinction between modern and contemporary, and chosen to limit ourselves to only 3 sections: the main one, that of the emerging galleries and “Decades”, the only curated one with ten galleries exploring ten different decades of the past century. »
Untitled, rising value
On the side of the galleries, satisfaction is rather in order. Misako & Rosen (Tokyo and Brussels), at its first participation, announces that it has sold 90% of its stand. Ditto at the Brussels Stems, which sold almost all the works presented, in particular the paintings by Coady Brown (around 20,000 euros).
