Minister of Agriculture: The first apple trucks from the Republic of Moldova arrived in Romania
The first apple shots from Rep. Moldova has already arrived in Romania and next week other quantities of fruit will reach the market of the neighboring state. The Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Viorel Gherciu, who returned from Bucharest, announced this in a press conference today.
According to the official, currently in the refrigerators of Rep. Moldova has over 120 thousand tons of fruit for which to look for a market.
“Some commercial networks in Romania have reported that the first apple shootings in Rep. Moldova has reached them. We are in negotiations to expand the range of apples, including red varieties, because we initially opted for the yellow varieties. Other networks have also confirmed that they are waiting for the first shots next week. Romania annually imports around 100,000 tons of apples, mostly from Poland. I think for the producers in Rep. Moldova is a great opportunity to enter this market. From the discussions we had with the representatives of the commercial networks, the consumer appreciates the products from Rep. Moldova, I am not just talking about apples. It is important for us to have a more serious attitude and to ensure a promotional campaign on this market “

During the press conference, Minister Viorel Gherciu spoke about the measures to support farmers taken by the authorities, including the reimbursement of excise duties on diesel, the compensation of interest on loans. A support worth half a million dollars is provided by the Food and Agriculture Organization for small producers in the Republic of Moldova in order to procure seed material and fertilizers.
