FC Zurich from minus 41 to plus 17
Super League – The Young Boys and FC Zurich squads have not changed fundamentally for the 2021/22 season. What the teams do with the many remaining players is all the more different.
It’s like the night after the day. Or from the point of view of the people of Zurich: like day after night.
Even if you take into account that the Young Boys, as the outgoing champions, had an almost phenomenal bad luck with injuries over the first three quarters of the season and were beaten below their value, the point balances are meaningful.
In the four Bern championship seasons from 2017/18, Zurich lagged behind by an average of 39 points. In turn, it was 35, 47, 33 and – in the 2020/21 season – 41 points. In the current season, Zurich have improved by an incredible 58 points compared to YB: from minus 41 to plus 17.
If the two teams perform in a similar way in the final quarter of the championship as they did in the first 27 rounds, the difference could easily grow to more than 20 points. Something could already be added this weekend, because a defeat by the Young Boys in Basel seems more likely than a defeat by the FCZ in the derby against the Grasshoppers.
