Banksy’s exhibition in Verona transforms the station into an art gallery
Banksy’s journey through the railway stations of Italy arrives in Veneto. After the departure in December from Milano Centrale and in February from Turin Porta Nuova, now it’s up to Verona. The exhibition “The World of Banksy – The Immersive Experience” will be open from 15 April to 31 July 2022 at the Verona station. And so places of departures and arrivals become an expression of culture and innovation.
In addition to Bansky’s 100 works, there are over 30 life-size murals created by young international and local street artists. A way to immerse yourself in the world of the Bristol artist and in his interpretation of the contemporary made of social, economic, political and climatic denunciations.
«It is not a simple exhibition but an artistic performance. We have focused on the immersive aspect to make the visitor experience the surprise of finding a work of art by chance overnight on the corner of a street that he travels every day to go to work: they are not only the real-size stencils were reproduced but also the walls and contests in which Banksy painted his most famous murals », explains Manu De Ros, curator of the exhibition.
There will also be six never-before-seen murals. Among these are “Madonna with the gun”, the first work recognized in Italy made with the stencil technique in Piazza Gerolomini in Naples and “Migrant Child”, a mural in support of migrants blocked at sea by a policy of closing ports , which appeared in Venice on the night of May 8, 2019 during the inauguration of the 58th Biennale.
Inside the path find an iBanksy space. It is a section in which the works become animated thanks to short videos that trace the history and social message of the murals created by the Bristol artist on walls and bridges around the world. “For us it is an important opportunity to give a second life to many of the artist’s works and to travel through time, given that most of the reproduced works have been destroyed, covered or stolen (and then purchased)” concludes De Ros.
