City of Salzburg – citizens’ survey Mönchsberggarage: grace period of two weeks
The main electoral authority of the city of Salzburg met on Thursday, March 31, 2022, for a second time in relation to the Mönchsberggarage citizen survey. The detailed examination of the 2,499 signatures submitted so far shows that only 1,984 of them are valid. 515 or around 20.6 percent do not meet the necessary requirements. This does not mean that the questioning has been resolved for the time being.
The hurdle of 2,000 signatures prescribed by city law for the initiation of the desired public survey was missed by exactly 16 signatures. The operators now have 14 days to provide the missing signatures. That shouldn’t be a problem in itself, since according to its own statements it has more than 5,000 declarations of support against the expansion of the Mönchsberg garage.
What was the problem?
The examination of the signature lists by the residents’ and registry office showed that most of the more than 500 invalid people came from people who either do not have their main residence in the city of Salzburg or are not entitled to vote here. It was also checked whether the name, date of birth and address were filled out correctly and completely.
The main electoral authority is now expected to meet again on April 20 to assess the signatures that have been delivered. If these are impeccable and if the municipal law hurdle has been cleared, the citizen survey should be able to take place before summer at the end of June.
Your result is not binding for city politics and can be canceled in the electronic official gazette of the city of Salzburg.
