On the side of the Labège 2 commercial area, southeast of Toulouse, very close to the Carrefour highly cited by employees of the economic center, small panels have emerged in recent weeks.
These insignificant panels, which can easily be missed, nevertheless announce a major upheaval in the commercial area.
The Line B Connection site
This upheaval is that of first demolitions related to line B connection site which will start in the next few weeks.
As a reminder, this project will extend line B of the metro by 2.7 km from September 2027, from the Ramonville terminus to Labège, via the creation of two stations, that of the Parc Technologique du Canal and that of L National Polytechnic Institute (INP).
A resort that changes everything
It is the so-called National Polytechnic Institute (INP) station which will be located a few hectometers from the Labège shopping center. A station which will be, after 2028, common to the CLB and the future 3and line.
It is the arrival of this station that today requires the demolition of several old businesses that have been closed in recent months. Other signs will have the same destiny.
Two demolition permits
At the end of March 2022, two old commercial buildings will soon disappear from the landscape of the commercial area. These are the former Paul bakery and the former restaurant “Les Fans de Seoul”. Two buildings located at the entrance to the Place des Commerces where you can also find the Action, Cultura, Gémo brands, etc.
These old shops will soon disappear near Labège
Other buildings will be demolished
In the medium term, the Action brand building, which is right on the route of the 3and line will disappear. The games and toys store, located next door, has closed for some time and its parking lot, already barricaded, announces an upcoming demolition.
Where exactly will the metro pass?
It is therefore the entire “commercial square” that will be impacted by the arrival of the metro for the simple reason that its viaduct will pass right in the middle.
After crossing the Lac de la Justice, the viaduct will make a bend at Place du Commerce before reaching the station which will be located just opposite the Labège 2 shopping mall.
The metro station right in the Labège 2 car park
Because if the “Commercial Square” located near the Labège 2 center is already impacted, it is soon the parking lot of the shopping center that will be directly affected by the metro works.
The INP station, the CLB terminus which will be shared with the 3and metro line, will indeed be installed in the Carrefour Labège car park. Before the station is built, this is where the site base will be installed.
The viaduct, in the middle of the car park
The viaduct of the 3and line will then run through the middle of the Carrefour car park to reach the Labège-Innopole station.
Dozens of parking spaces removed
Those are several dozen parking spaces that will be removed.
Tisseo detail :
“Among the plots impacted by the project, there are several plots for parking use depending on the Labège 2 shopping center within the company Carrefour Hypermarchés operates a hypermarket under the Carrefour brand. Thereby, During the work period, estimated at 5 years, part of this car park will be occupied/neutralized by Tisséo and therefore unusable by customers of the Labège 2 shopping center and the Carrefour Hypermarket. The completion of the work will also lead to the modification of the conditions of access to the shopping center. This change in the direction of traffic will cause some inconvenience to customers and users of the shopping center and the Carrefour Hypermarket”.
Carrefour compensated
Tisséo and Carrefour have decided to anticipate and settle amicably the compensation for the commercial damage that Carrefour Hypermarkets will suffer as a result of the completion of the works for the 3and metro line and Connection line B.
On February 16, 2022, “in compensation for the damage suffered as a result of the works”, Tisséo undertook to pay the sum of 3.2 million euros.
