Two injured in apartment fire in Zurich
Early on Sunday morning, shortly before 5 a.m., the protection and rescue service in Zurich (SRZ) received the report that an apartment in an apartment building on Birmensdorferstrasse was on fire and that at least one person was still in the apartment.
When firefighters got to the scene, the apartment was already engulfed in flames. The thick smoke, which hardly allowed visibility, made the rescue work more difficult.
Heavy smoke made rescue work difficult
The apartment and the building were searched and several people were evacuated together with the city police. At the same time, the professional fire brigade pulled an extinguishing line inside the house and fought the fire with a quick attack from the turntable ladder. Thanks to the rapid intervention of the rescue services, the fire was extinguished and the fire prevented from spreading.
Due to the heavy smoke development, two people experienced smoke inhalation. They were given first medical aid and hospitalized by the SRZ paramedics. The apartment affected by the fire is uninhabitable until further notice. The property damage is negligible.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is being investigated by fire investigators from the Zurich cantonal police and detectives from the Zurich city police. (Man)
