Anacom: Portugal continues to have an image of telecommunications prices European Union – Telecommunications

Based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) sub-index, the regulator says that telecommunications prices rose 0.3% in February, when compared to the previous month. This is due to the prices of some package offers, referring to Anacom. But when compared to the same period of time before, prices will increase by 1.5%, reinforcing that this value is 2.7% lower than the growth of the CPI.
Anacom says that the average rate of telecommunications prices in the last year was 0.9%, that is, half below the registered CPI (1.8%). In general, in February 2022 the average rate of the last 12 months in the price of telecommunications was 0.3% higher than the European Union. And to reinforce that Portugal has a price rate as the 10th highest in Europe. Slovakia (5.9%) has seen the biggest increase in prices and Bulgaria (with 4.5% less) has seen the biggest increase. Overall, the European Union average increased by 0.6%.
It should be noted that APRITEL focused on data relating to internet fixing services, in Portugal it did not appear at the top of the table with a reduction of 5.5%. In the same way that bundle services also recorded a drop of 0.6%.
The regulator that in cumulative terms, since 2010, telecommunications prices have risen 10.9%, with the CPI having increased by 13%. “The divergence between two indices started in 201 and was accentuated in 2016, associated with the “price adjustment” between the adjustments made by the main suppliers”, says Anacom. It should also be noted that from 2019, an amendment according to the entry into force of the maximum prices of the regulation may be amended.
And projecting a scenario with no growth in force, Anacom estimates that it has a telecommunications price at 14.6% since the end of 2010, remaining 1.6% above the CPI information. And still in the long-term reading, between the end of February 2009 and February 2022, the regulator says that prices increased by 8.9%, while in Europe they fell by 9.6%. “the prices of telephone communications”.
Price increases and decreases by operators
With regard to offers, Anacom says that NOWO was the operator with the lowest monthly fee in eight of the 13 offers. MEO and NOS have lower monthly fees for two types of services, while Vodafone only has one cheaper product. Overall, in the same period last year, the regulator says there were 18 price increases and four price decreases.
Unlike APRITEL, which highlighted the price reduction of service packages, Anacom says that the minimum monthly fees for 4P offers increased by 8.3%, due to the resolution of NOWO’s more affordable proposals. And the minimum monthly fee for the 5P offer increased by 0.2% due to Vodafone having offered the first monthly fee of its base service. Special mention should be made of the increases in the monthly fees of the 4P and 5P offers by MEO, NOS and Vodafone, registered in May and June 2021.
Other monthly fee variations:
– Pay television (TVS) increased by 30.8% due to the end of the offer of a NOS offer.
– Fixed broadband (BLF) service provided 4.2% of the offer of the first monthly fee from NOWO’s base.
– Mobile telephone service (MTS) with internet increased by 50%, due to the management of NOWO and MEO offers of 5 euros monthly fees.
– Mobile broadband via PC/Tablet grew 4.3% due to the elimination of the first monthly fee for MEO’s base service.
– BLF+TVSTF grew 11.1%, TVS+Fixed Telephone Service (3P grew 0.4% due to NOWO’s television option). The monthly fee for the TVS+STF offer grew by 77.6% due to the end of an offer from NOS.
Anacom mentions that MEO increased the monthly fee by five and also increased the price of two offers. NOS increased the monthly fees for two services, Vodafone increased and increased one offer. Finally, NOWO increased monthly fees for eight services and went on an offer.
