Dmitry Bivol speaks before the main event
“I have good speed. I have good power,” Bivol told Chris Mannix.
Michael McKinson is still undefeated in a tactical battle with Alex Martin
This is best described as a strategic struggle. Martin fired minimal shots while McKinson stayed active, applying pressure and landing more shots. 99-91 was a cruel result card, but the right man won when McKinson broke his record with 22-0.
Must give McKinson credit. He could have bowed when Ortiz was forced out of the show and could not compete. He went through two opponent changes and still got it done.
The audience is not happy
The audience is not very overjoyed because at the end of the ninth round they booed McKinson and Martin. However, it is difficult to blame McKinson because he at least tries to push the issue while Martin is content to stick to his script.
Alexis Rocha gets ready for Blair Cobbs
Halfway through
Through five, it’s hard to score because there has not been a lot of action. Martin settles for boxing from the outside, and McKinson begins to try to push the fight without result as he continues to swing and miss.
Tactical competition through three
You’re wrong if you were expecting a slug party between McKinson and Martin. Instead, we have seen a boxing match through three rounds. Both have shown good jabs, but McKinson has the small edge so far. He pushes Martin and lands the harder shots, as he has moved Martin back a couple of times.
Michael McKinson makes his US debut
McKinson was scheduled to headline this incident against Vergil Ortiz Jr., but Ortiz had to withdraw early this week. After that, McKinson became a tab to meet Jesus Antonio Perez Campos. But Campos would not gain weight. So Martin stepped up to the plate with 36 hours notice, rising from 135 pounds.
It is difficult to predict how this will go.
“Blair The Flair” has arrived
Bektemir Melikuziev stops David Zegarra with a violent body shot
After a methodical first round, Melikuziev wasted no time in the second, Melikuziev landed a sharp blow upstairs. Zegarra was about to loosen a right, Melikuziev closes the curtain with a short uppercut to send Zegarra to his knees and writhes in pain. He held his stomach and you knew he would not get up again.
It was one for the highlight roll. Must feel good for Melikuziev to come back from Rosado and get a devastating KO.
Bektemir Melikuziev returns
After losing to Gabe Rosado, Melikuziev returned in December with a unanimous victory over Sergei Ekimov. WBA (super) light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol went “Bek The Bully” down to the ring.
Bivol meets Canelo Alvarez on May 7, which can be seen on DAZN PPV in the USA and Canada. Check your availability if you are outside these regions.
Evan Sanchez overpowers Alejandro Munera to remain undefeated
Power was the name of the game for Sanchez. He consistently found a home with a left hook to the body and upstairs. Yes, he lost Munera in the fourth, but to Munera’s credit, he held on tight and ate lots of shots to get to the last clock.
Sanchez breaks his record to 11-0 with six knockouts. A solid perspective to watch out for in the future.
