Last year, about 315,000 visitors visited the botanical garden in Prague’s Troja. The garden was closed to visitors due to the covid-19 pandemic in the country and related government regulations. Nevertheless, the number of visitors is comparable to the number of people who visited the garden in 2016, when it was open all year round. Compared to 2020, when attendance also affected the coronavirus, about 120,000 more people lost, said garden spokeswoman Michaela Bičíková. So far, most people visited the capital’s botanical garden in 2019, 376,287 people.
“The most successful periods in terms of the number of visitors were September and October, when the traditional vintage bonsai exhibition and the orchid exhibition took place,” Bičíková informed.
She earned 18.5 million crowns in the entrance garden last year. The garden received another about 4.5 million crowns for additional services. These include, for example, renting space or selling wine from the vineyard of St. Klára, which is part of the botanical garden.
The external expositions of the botanical garden were closed to visitors from 18 December 2020 to 12 April 2021 due to a government regulation related to the covid-19 pandemic. it was closed by May 2021. According to Bičíková, the entry time losses for the closure amounted to eight million crowns. The settlement was achieved mainly thanks to the support of the capital city, which is the founder of the garden.
The Botanical Garden was founded in 1969. For over 20 years, the public could visit it only on open days, it has been open all year round since August 1992. In the 1990s, the listed vineyard of St. Klára and the Fata Morgana tropical greenhouse was opened 15 years ago. Outdoor exhibits cover an area of almost 25 hectares. In the area you can see 15.00 species of trees and flowers.
