Prague 2 will repair part of Riegrovy sady, the work will continue until the end of the year
“The costs will be 55.63 million crowns,” said town hall spokeswoman Andrea Zoulová. The park, the second part of the city, has been gradually revitalizing for several years. The author of the architectural and urban design is the architect Matouš Jebavý.
The park paths will be repaired, their drainage will be modified, the historic pump and a bird drinking fountain will be reconstructed and a natural amphitheater will be created. Benches and rubbish bins will be added to the park, and there will be cast iron bollards at the entrances to prevent unauthorized entry into the park.
The old garden facilities will also be demolished and a road with an oak alley, apple or cherry trees will be built in its place. Over two thousand shrubs, 48 trees and 18,000 bulbs will be planted.
The so-called romantic nooks with artificial modeled stumps and roots will also undergo the transformation. Rock outcrops will be newly built under the Mlíkárna building. “The rock outcrops will resemble a spectator auditorium and the grassy area, which replaced the former fire tank, will be equipped with an electricity consumption point. This will give the place a wider social and recreational use, “said Deputy Mayor Václav Vondrášek (ODS).
The gradual repair of the park began several years ago. In 2017, the historic Vozová Gate in the back of the park was reconstructed, and two years later the main viewpoint of Prague and Prague Castle were repaired.
