High numbers: Salzburg schools are reintroducing masks – Salzburg
At the federal level, the prospects of the high number of infections are set to make masks compulsory again around 30 Salzburg schools.
At the federal level, the masks have already fallen. This applies, for example, in retail and gastronomy – and of course also in Austria’s schools. And that, although the number of infections is currently higher than ever. The number of corona cases is skyrocketing, especially among young people.
On Tuesday alone, 792 people in the state of Salzburg tested positive for the corona virus. Most cases are with 304 infections in the schools in the city of Salzburg, followed by 200 in Flachgau, 103 in Pinzgau, 92 in Pongau, 73 in Tennengau and 20 in Lungau.
Directors can make their own decisions
Around 30 schools in Salzburg no longer want to watch impassively. In order to better protect students and teachers, 39 classes at 27 schools are now using common protective masks again. According to the Ministry of Education, it is up to the directorates themselves to tighten the corona measures themselves.
However, this is getting worse and worse, especially for parents, says ÖVP Education Minister Daniela Gutschi to the ORF. “They say it can’t be that there is no longer a mask requirement in restaurants, for example, but there is in school. Wearing a mask is clearly a good safety measure, but I sense a decreasing willingness here,” says Gutschi.
