Sahara sand is falling in Slovakia. It will also snow at night

Sugar Mizzy March 15, 2022

The weather in Slovakia will worsen in the coming minutes. The front is approaching from the west, which will bring precipitation. They will also be in the form of snow, but in addition to rain and snow, Sahara sand will also come to our territory.

It will change in our weather in a moment. For several days, the extensive pressure altitude, which extends over Eastern Europe, has a dominant influence on the nature of the weather in our territory. This pressure increase brings to our territory a stable weather without precipitation, which highlights the precipitation deficit.

However, Wednesday will bring change. Almost the entire territory of our country is waiting for precipitation, which will be both locally and more pronounced. In some areas, 10 mm of rain could fall.

The cold front is approaching

The weather is beginning to affect the cold front, which is coming over our territory from the west. At the same time, a higher pressure is being maintained over Eastern Europe and this will continue this cold front to the east. The Cold Front will thus disintegrate over our territory.

Rainfall awaits our territory throughout the night and Wednesdays. In most areas it will be rain, but in the northern parts of our territory, as well as in the area of Gemer or Spiš, snowfall can also occur at night and in the morning in lower positions.

According to the current numbers of numerical models, several new snows could fall in the morning, which could complicate the traffic situation in our territory. During the day, however, precipitation changes back to liquid fuel and the snow melts. Numerical models assume that the cold front will bring to our territory from 5 to 10 mm precipitation. 20 mm of rain can fall on heavy areas.

Sahara sand will also come

In addition to rain and snow, our territory is also waiting for Saharan sand, which is reflected outside during Wednesday. During Tuesday, there was a significant sandstorm over the Sahara, as a result of which tons of sand got into the atmosphere.

Today, this sand got over Western Europe and in the evening it started towards Central Europe. The Sahara sand turned the sky in the western part of Europe orange, which could be observed especially during sunset. In the ski resorts, a layer of sand was also visible in the snow, which turned brown. The layer of Sahara sand is now advancing further east, towards our territory.

The precipitation that is expected during Wednesday will cause dust particles to bind to each other, which will then fall to the ground. During Wednesday, expect that you will find your cars dirty and the Sahara dust will be reflected in other places and objects in the exterior.
