Croatian information on the bomb on the drone that flew over Hungary
Croatian head of state Zoran Milanovic urged the establishment of a Croatian air defense system at a news conference following a meeting with leaders of the Croatian Defense Forces and the Security Intelligence Agency on Monday, saying he said it would not happen again.
Croatian Prime Minister Andrei Plenkovic later said in a press conference on Monday that there was a bomb on a drone that crashed in Zagreb on Thursday night, and a further investigation wants to find out who launched the missile into Croatia, whether there was a mistake, sabotage or intent.
However, he added: after the incident, he spoke to French President Emmanuel Macron, who offered to help protect Croatian airspace. “On March 12, the E-2C Hawkeye early warning and airspace control aircraft has already flown over and will do so on Tuesday,” Plenkovic said.
Croatia’s only fighter squadron consists of eight supersonic, overhauled MiG-21 BIS fighter jets and four UM practice aircraft. There are currently few of them flying and they also spend only minimal time in the air. Only from 2023 can these machines not take off either, because their technical validity expires.
The Croatian government decided in May to buy twelve used Dassault Rafale F3R fighters from France. These will arrive in Croatia one after the other, from 2024 onwards.
The unmanned plane crashed a few minutes after 11pm on Thursday near a dormitory and crashed into the ground in the Croatian capital, Lake Jarun. The area was closed that night. There were no personal injuries, damage was caused to cars parked in the area.
