The sand from the Sahar is heading to Europe. “Dirty rain” will fall in Slovakia on Wednesday
During Wednesday, a cold front will arrive on our territory, which will take care of precipitation. However, in addition to precipitation, this cold front will also bring Sahara cakes to us. If you leave outside on Wednesday, be prepared for the fact that you have to on Thursday.
For several days now, the weather has been stable in our territory, which is taken care of by a large area of higher pressure. Its center is located above Eastern Europe and extends over many European countries, including the whole of Central, Eastern and Southern Europe.
This pressure level has remained motionless for virtually several days, bringing to our stable area and dry weather, thus exacerbating the precipitation deficit.
However, there will be a change during Wednesday. The stable character of the weather will be disturbed by the cold front, which will bring precipitation, but in addition to the moisture, the Sahara sand will also reach us. It will start reaching Europe in high concentrations on Tuesday.
Sahara sand is heading to Europe
The pressure level we mentioned will expand at the beginning of the week from Europe over East Africa and at the same time the pressure level will deepen over Morocco, creating a significant pressure gradient over the central part of North Africa.
A heavy sandstorm should unleash over Algeria during the day, during which tons of sand will be ejected into the upper atmosphere and then headed over Europe in a strong southern current. As you can see from the animation, the Saharan dust will reach Spain and western and southern France on Monday night, while it will not stop over these areas and start continuing to Europe.
Saharan sand will flow over Europe in high concentrations even on Tuesday and will already reach southern England and practically the whole of Western Europe.
Subsequently, due to the northwest current, Saharan sand will begin to flow from Western Europe over our area. Already on Tuesday evening, Saharan sand will reach Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria in high concentration, and on Tuesday night, Saharan dust will also reach Slovakia.
Cars get dirty in the rain
At the same time, the weather on our territory will begin to affect the cold front. On Wednesday, in the early morning hours, it is located from the northwest over our territory to bring down rain, while it first rains, especially in western Slovakia.
So, on Wednesday morning, the rain drops send the individual dust grains together and the Sahara sands hit the ground thanks to the drops. The rain will gradually bring the Sahara sand to the ground all over Slovakia, so on Wednesday expect a layer of sand to form on the cars.
