Remittances from emigrants are contributors that reveal the connection to Portugal
Speaking to the Lusa agency, Berta Nunes underlined the value of remittances in 2021 and that it was “the highest in the euro era” – 3.6 billion euros.
Taking into account the profile of emigration, a government official says that the diaspora taxpayer in the country of origin covers other Portuguese modalities, namely investment.
In this regard, the National Investment Support Program stated The Diaspora (PNID) “has made clear the dimension of this investment, being able to simultaneously promote and consolidate it”.
According to Berta Nunes, the Diaspora Investment Support Office (GAID), part of the Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities, monitors around 110 investors with investment potential of over 80 million euros.
“The PNA, by definition, is a program that opposes supported by emigrants that the Government, by its votes and by emigrants, has as its objective the idea of investment, in a logic of proximity in their immigrant lands. or not to the country, its recognized communities of origin, value and integration in those explained.
Berta Projetos also considered that “it contributes beyond the initiatives undertaken in different communities and also the investment, which is currently a culture and which carries out a diversity of networks on the part of Portugal”.
“These networks must be identical and fostered, work that we seek to do in the areas of action of this governmental area: from teaching Portuguese abroad to valuing the production and cultural heritage of Portuguese communities, promoting higher education among emigrants and Portuguese descendants. proximity work with the associative movement, both with so-called traditional associations and with graduate and postgraduate associations”, he advocated.
And he regretted that between the two citizens of the Portuguese communities there is an idea that governments only remember the communities for reasons: remittances and votes.

“Just seeing the huge amount of our Portuguese diplomatic and consular network is so much support in supporting residents in Ukraine to see, on the contrary, the attention to our residents as the circumstances experienced by Portuguese abroad,” he said.
