Toulouse. La Gougnotte, an activist bar in Saint-Cyprien
“La Gougnotte” is the name of the new bar which opened its doors on February 15 on the Etienne-Billières alleys in the Saint-Cyprien district. A bar unlike any other that claims to be feminist and “queer”, a term used by the LGBT population. It is also the culmination of a project initiated two years ago by Constance Charvis, an oenologist by training, and Marion Luc, a specialist in the themes of discrimination, after a master’s degree in gender studies and humanitarian aid. Wishing to settle in town to open a place to live and share, they then launched a crowdfunding campaign which enabled them to raise no less than €10,000. “From the initial project, we only kept the militant bar, putting aside, for the moment, our idea of creating an urban winery” explains Constance. Wines and beers tested by winegrowers or craft brewers, and, with or without alcohol, the products are local, organic, or biodynamic. La Gougnotte is also a variety of upcoming cultural events: workshops, exhibitions, concerts. “We want to give the floor to the associations, organizer of the evening debates. There will also be drag-queen and drag-king performances” assures Constance. La Gougnotte, a place without discrimination where even the toilets are gender neutral.
