In France, we don’t have oil but we have ideas. From young students from Nord – Pas-de-Calais were created Politeiano test online to know his son candidate for the next presidential election. We’re decorating it for you!
30,000 tests in two months
Politeia was first and foremost a personal project. “We realized that it was difficult to recognize ourselves in the programs of all the candidates, that we were overwhelmed by all the proposals”, explains Etienne Ducroquet, student at ESPOL (European School of Political Science of Lille) and originally from Sericourt (Pas-de-Calais).
So, with Marius Grolleron and Capucine Gidoin, two of his comrades, he decided to start creating a questionnaire to “simplify the debate around big ideas”. But far from the idea of taking this work lightly. Since last November, they have been hard at work: “In total, I worked there nearly 10 hours a day,” confides the student who learned computer coder for the occasion.
Also, the creation of Politeia is based on a daily effort, between the study of the programs of each candidate, their various media interventions and the analyzes published in the newspapers.
So, after reflection, the three students decided to make their work public in order to “allow a more fertile debate”. Unlike Elyze, the “Tinder” of the presidential election, the Politeia does not focus on factual proposals, but rather on sensitivities. “Are we more conservative or more libertarian than someone else? More interventionist or liberal? ” That is the question.
The online questionnaire, completed almost 30,000 times to date, is divided into five themes on the economy, customs, Europe, production and culture. Each time, a dozen possible answers. “The State must regulate the economy to limit inequalities through taxation”, “cultural diversity is a wealth for France” or even, “the role of the State is to preserve the traditions and values whose we received “.
Five different themes
In the end, each personal positioning is placed on a graduated scale by those of the candidates of the next month. But they assure him, “no data will be used”. It was the eternal debate that there had been around their competitor Elyze. Although the students would have found it “interesting” to study these statistics, they preferred to play it safe. “You never know, you could be hacked for example. ” Your turn to try !
