A BOLA – Exclusion of Russia keeps Portugal in the race for the 2023 World Cup (Rugby)
The exclusion of Russia from qualifying for the 2023 World Cup will not exclude all Portugal from the race, after being awarded, this Thursday, four points awarded to teams that still had to face the Russians.
In other words, Rugby decided to keep all the results from Russia, following a suspension imposed due to the military invasion of Ukraine.
The body that supervises the world guebi also decided that a victory awarded to four points to the selections that benefits from the lack of Russian comparison, and not five points, corresponding to an offensive bonus point.
This alternative-Portugal, on Sunday in Madrid, a final for qualifying goes straight to the World Cup in France, as the two Iberian teams will be tied for second place in qualifying, with 25 points.
To qualify directly, Portugal needs to win in Spain and hope that neither Romania, on Saturday, nor Spain, on March 20, will defeat Georgia in the matches against the current leader of the qualification.
Georgia follows in first place and, after the World Rugby decision, they are already through and need just one more point to be able to do it in first place.
Spain, on the other hand, automatically qualifies if they beat Portugal, while Romania, which is now fourth, needs to win both their games, but also for Portugal to beat Spain and for the lions lose on the last matchday, in Georgia, or draw in Georgia and beat the Netherlands, provided that Portugal doesn’t have some bonus point in Madrid.
