VW builds new factory for new car
If all goes according to plan, the first models of Volkswagen’s groundbreaking sedan will roll out of the gates in 2026.
The Volkswagen Group is among the traditional car manufacturers that have come the furthest in the electric shift.
Models like VW ID.3. ID.4 and ID.5 have done well here at home, the same must be said about Audi’s E-tron cars and Skoda’s newcomer Enyaq, which is also under the umbrella of the German car giant.
Recently we were also in Copenhagen and got a first test ride in the passenger car bus’ successor, ID.Buzz.

Must drive long and charge fast
With Trinity, VW takes it all a bit further. The first sketches of the car are out along with some key information. And it is not trifles that are planned.
Trinity must set a new standard for range, charging speed and digitization, we must believe a press release from the company.
There is talk, for example, of a range of over 700 kilometers. More startling is perhaps that the car must be able to be charged on time, it takes to fill a tank with diesel or petrol.
Volkswagen has dubbed its strategy heading into an all-electric, carbon-neutral future for «ACCELERATE».
– Trinity is in a way the essence of our Accelerate strategy, a lighthouse project, our software dream car, says VW CEO Ralf Brandstätter in the message.

Brand new factory
The importance of the project is reflected not least in the news that VW is investing two billion euros (just under 20 billion kroner) in its own production facilities for Trinity not far from the company’s main factory in Wolfsburg.
Construction of the new factory will start next year, and the plan is for the first cars to roll out the gate in 2026.
Trinity will be based on VW’s future platform SSP, which will be scalable. This will be developed in Campus Sandkamp, VW’s new development center adjacent to the factory in Wolfsburg, which will cost 800 million euros (just under eight billion kroner).

Volkswagen’s trinity
Production must be streamlined to a greater extent than before, and there will be fewer model variants. Instead, the car must be delivered with all available functions via software, so the customer can choose afterwards what to activate when (on demand) from the car’s digital ecosystem.
This should contribute to a more standardized and cost-effective production, and according to VW, it should be possible to build a car from scratch in a day.
– We want to look at a way in which we build cars with completely new eyes and introduce revolutionary solutions. Digitization, automation and lightweight constructions play an important role here, Brandstätter says.
The name Trinity is derived from the Latin word «trinitas», which means trinity. In this context, it is about:
- The newly developed platform with the latest in software.
- Simplification of the supply structure.
- Pioneering, network-based and intelligent production.
The car must be technically prepared for self-driving at fire level, it will be a very high degree of automaticity as in practice using the car is self-driving. Most of today’s new cars are at level 2.
