RB Salzburg: Contract expires! Junuzovic talks about future – football
Zlatko Junuzovic has made five appearances so far this season. Persistent heel problems thwarted the experienced offensive player.
“It was at the end of August in Hartberg, a violent blow from behind against the heel, there was a bone bruise and as a result inflammation followed,” Junuzovic recalled in the “Small newspaper“. The playmaker played through the party, and on the same night Junuzovic thought “something broke”.
The injury had to heal for around five and a half months, “there were setbacks” as “Juno” reveals. In the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against the great FC Bayern, the 55-time team player then appears in the Salzburg squad for the first time. Junuzovic was denied an appearance in the most important game in the club’s history to date.
Maybe the last European Cup game with Salzburg?
Since then, three weeks have passed. Between the first leg in Salzburg and the second leg on Tuesday (9 p.m. in LIVE Ticker) in Munich there are three Bundesliga rounds where the renewed leap into the squad failed.
“I’ve had a few more training sessions and I think I’m already at a good level of fitness,” Junuzovic looks positively ahead. Is it enough for a call-up to the squad on Tuesday? “First and foremost, I’m happy to be back with the team. It’s important to have a good feeling and maybe that’s enough for a game.”
Should Bayern lose and Junuzovic not get a chance, the European Cup career with Salzburg as a player could be over forever. His contract expires in the summer. “Both sides have now waited to see how my condition develops,” says Junuzovic, whose tendency is clear.
“It is open in which direction it goes”
“Basically, I have to say that the years here in Salzburg were outstanding for me. It went great and I’m very happy to be at this club. I feel extremely comfortable and from my point of view there’s nothing wrong with continuing here. “
For Junuzovic the “complete package” has to pass. The 35th birthday follows in September, the younger generation is breathing down the neck. It is well known that Salzburg has a good mix of squads. Alongside Andi Ulmer and Alexander Walke, Junuzovic is considered a leading player who also “sometimes has to bring down the up-and-coming talent a bit”.
However, the former Bremen legionnaire does not want to look too deeply into the crystal ball. Because: “In which direction it goes is still open.”
