the exhibition from 18 March
The inauguration of the exhibition-event that celebrates the bicentenary of Napoleon’s death entitled Napoleon, la Repubblica, le Repubbliche (1797-1805) will be held on Friday 18 March at 2.30 pm at the Pinacoteca San Francesco. Relations between San Marino, Bonaparte and the sister Republics.
Organized by the State Archives, it is fully part of the program of appointments of the Committee for the Italian Napoleonic Bicentenary (1821-2021), chaired by Luigi Mascilli Migliorini, who will hold a lectio magistralis on 19 March at 10 at the Titano theater. for high school students.
The subject of the exhibition, which contains a selection of documents, works of art, libraries, weapons, philatelic and nummatic values, traces the Napoleonic passage in Italy and the relationships entertained by Bonaparte of San Marino. An ideal itinerary that connects the figures of Napoleon, Antonio Canova and Antonio Onofri. Several insights will enrich the itinerary, from the excursus on the medal and monetary heritage of the time and on the origins of the San Marino flag, to the in-depth studies on Canova, of which Napoleon was one of the main clients, and on Onofri, a politician and diplomat from San Marino, unique in renewed with the title of “father of the country”. Between the end of the 1700s and the beginning of the 1800s, republics were born throughout the Italian territory, animated by the values and ideals coming from the France of the time. The Republic of San Marino, up to that moment accustomed to interacting mainly with the State of the Church, starting from 1797 had to open up to dialogue also with these new republics and the work of Onofri was fundamental, thanks to his prudence , to govern San Marino foreign policy in those difficult years.
Promoted by the Secretariat of State for Education and Culture and the Secretariat of State for Tourism together with the Cultural Institutes, this will be the first of a series of major exhibitions that San Marino has planned for this season. «It is a very interesting exhibition not only for the San Marino reality. It is yet another testimony of the value that the State Archives contain ». says the director of the Cultural Institutes, Paolo Rondelli. “It has an invaluable interest, it deserves to be visited and not only by the citizens of San Marino” adds Filippo Francini, director of the Tourism and Culture Department.
