Abandoned Child Now Off Malta Ahmedabad News
Ahmedabad: In November 2019, city police found an abandoned boy on the street. Two and a half years later, he gained the love of his parents with a couple from Malta adopting him. Sagar’s adoption ceremony, christened ‘Jack’ by his parents, was held at Shishu Gruh in Paldi on Saturday.
Some of those at the event were Pradip Parmar, minister of social justice and state emancipation, Jagruti Pandya, chairman of the Commission on the Protection of the Rights of the Child, and RS Patel, secretary of Sardar Patel Memorial.
Talking to TOI, the emotional parents said that this was a dream come true for them. The couple – Canmelo and Chanlene Abdilla, a businessman and teacher, respectively – have been waiting for the adoption process to be completed for almost two years. “It was the experience of some of our relatives that prompted us to adopt a child from India. We were in touch with the authorities and we talked to Jack regularly through video calls, ”said Chanlene. “We have prepared a special room for him and we have also started preparations for his entry into the September intake.”
Ritesh Dave, Shishu Gruh’s superintendent, said the boy had hearing problems, which were addressed during his visit to the facility. “This is our fourth international adoption this year. We have 35 children every year, the majority of whom are adopted, ”he said.
