The mayor of Prague 10 started lying about the bus with the refugees. The opposition is calling on her to resign
Last Tuesday, March 1, the Prague 10 City Council discussed the amount of humanitarian aid for Ukrainian refugees. The Vlasta Coalition, of which Mayor Chmelová is a member, has proposed assistance in the amount of 10 million crowns. However, the deputies agreed that for the time being do not want to increase spending, will vacate several city apartments and will prepare 2 million crowns from the reserves to help refugees. So these two million will need to be saved somewhere.
The mayor was also supposed to say during the council that a bus with Ukrainian refugees was on the way and help should be arranged immediately. “Renata Chmelová abused the current situation and demonstrably figured out that a bus with Ukrainian refugees should arrive in Prague 10 in a few minutes. With an unsightly lie, she wanted to get the deputy to approve her proposal for budgetary measures, “says deputy Tomáš Pek (TOP 09).
However, the mayor unequivocally rejects this and says that during Havel’s negotiations with the director of the district police directorate, Renatlíková. “The headmistress called me, to verify accommodation capacity for Ukrainian refugees. They found asylum in the Slavia Hotel before we could prepare our city apartments for them. We talked for about twenty seconds and the key information for me was that we were looking for accommodation. I’m at the meeting itself then she mentioned the phone call as an example of how we now operate in Prague 10“Chmelová said.
But shortly after the mayor’s speech at the council meeting, one of her coalition partners spoke. “He said he had spoken to police, who denied the information. He directly convicted the mayor of lying. Therefore, in our opinion, it is not possible for Renata Chmelová to perform her function, “says Pek.
“There is nothing to prevent the opposition from demanding my resignation. However, I am currently working hard to do the work for our citizens and refugees, who are fleeing the war. If some politicians in the current crisis and completely unprecedented situation devote the main energy to gathering a cheap political body, I am very sorry, “Chmelová counters.
The opposition suspects the mayor that the two million that will go from the reserve will be missing from the mayor on her own PR. “It’s complete nonsense that the reason was not to lose money on my own PR. After all, there is no such chapter in the budgetwe only have a budget for the press department of the entire office, “the mayor concluded.
