Can Monaco still believe in Europe?
After the hard defeat in the Coupe de France against Nantes in the semi-finals, Monaco can only look in the direction of the championship. Are there still reasons to believe in a qualification for Europe on the side of the Rock, to launch a final challenge before the end of the season?
In a Beaujoire on fire which exploded with joy at the end of the penalty shootout, the Monegasques, staring into space, returned annoyed to the locker room, weaving between the countless Nantes supporters who had come to invade the lawn. Thus came to a tragic end the Monegasque journey in the Coupe de France, excluding hopes of a possible final behind them.
Monaco can therefore now only get their teeth into the French championship, but despite a sad ninth place, Clément’s men could well take up a final challenge before the end of the season. Indeed, while their competitors from Lyon allow themselves the right to dream of Europe, the monegasques won’t have to be prayed for either, why not get this qualifying place for the Europa League.
Despite a rather difficult and relatively disappointing season on the side of the Rock, Ben Yedder and the competent consort give themselves the means of access to European places. While far from the land, President Rybolovlev is threatened with tougher sanctions on Russian oligarchsand that the management of the club is therefore going through a complicated and, to say the least, unstable phase, it is up to the players to show that the feat is possible and that a “climb up” in the classification cannot be ruled out.
