The Prague Transport Company (DPP) will have a retention reservoir built for the irrigation of newly planted tree lines under the planned construction of a tram line and other modifications to the upper part of Wenceslas Square. The city councilors decided. The city concludes a contract with DPP with a value of approximately 181 million crowns excluding VAT.
“As part of our blue-green infrastructure strategy, we want to set up rainwater drainage in a retention storage tank, from which an irrigation system will operate on the new tree line we will plant in Václavák,” said Deputy Mayor Adam Scheinherr (Prague Sobě). According to him, the advantage is, in addition to water savings, that rainwater is better for trees because it is not so cold and there is no chlorine in it. The DPP is already preparing a project for the modification of the upper part of the square.
The city is now reconstructing the lower part of the square from Můstek to the mouth of Vodičkova Street. The work started the year before last and was to be completed in the following months. The basis of the reconstruction is a project from the architectural firm Cigler Marani Architects, which was created in 2005. Repairs to the upper part will be associated with the return of trams to the square. The city also had the dormitories located in the lower part, so that they were ready for a possible later extension of the track.
