Slovakia will be temporary from March 1
From March 1, Slovakia will be a temporary refuge for Ukrainian citizens and their family members. The government decided. Applicants for temporary refuge, but also people with so-called tolerants, could apply for health care to the same extent as asylum seekers.
This also applies if the donations are known only by the applicant’s temporary asylum card or the ID card. The provision of shelter is to apply temporarily until the end of 2022.
The Slovak Republic will provide temporary refuge to Ukrainian citizens, the spouse of a Ukrainian citizen, a Ukrainian minor or the spouse of a Ukrainian citizen and the parents of a minor who is a Ukrainian citizen. The government did not specify any other conditions.
The end of the refuge has been temporarily determined by the government until the end of the year. It will be possible to terminate it prematurely when the reasons for granting it cease to exist or, conversely, to renew it if necessary.
The simplified and limited “assessment” of applications for temporary asylum will involve persons who can prove their identity, nationality and, if not Ukrainian citizens, family relationship with a Ukrainian citizen.
“Proof of identity can be supplemented in a credible way, for example, by presenting an identity card with a birth certificate, a valid travel document or an expired travel document, an ID card, another photo document together with a birth certificate, etc.,” the government said.
“In the event that foreigners request the provision of temporary refuge and residents of accommodation in asylum facilities of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic, they will be provided with secured care (accommodation, meals, basic hygiene, pocket and similar) as applicants for asylum, ”is stated in the material. I also receive healthcare in accordance with the Asylum Act to the same extent as long as it provides me with an asylum seeker.
The provision of temporary refuge will not apply to persons who have been granted permanent or temporary residence in the territory of the Slovak Republic, persons to whom the Slovak Republic has granted asylum or granted subsidiary protection, 3 and will not apply to those who are applicants for asylum.
Temporary refuge is provided for the purpose of protecting aliens from war, endemic violence, the consequences of a humanitarian catastrophe or persistent and mass human rights violations in their country of origin.
Approval of the government’s temporary refuge would also mark the start of hotspots for refugees from Ukraine. They have so far set them up in four municipalities in eastern Slovakia, namely Ulič, Ubla, Vyšný Nemecky and Veľké Slemence. (tasr)
